The author relates the deontic theory of simple categorical oughts of \textit{B. van Fraasen} [J. Philos. 70, 5-19 (1973)] with the default logic of \textit{R. Reiter} [Artif. Intell. 13, 81-132 (1980; Zbl 0435.68069)]. Furthermore, he discusses the extension of this correspondence to conditional obligations and points out that there are deeper analogies between deontic and default logic.
