An asymptotic method of solving problems of the propagation of waves in strings is proposed which uses the value of the characteristic deformation as the small parameter. The method is demonstrated using the example of the point action on a fixed particle of the string, modelled by a nonstationary displacement (this action is usually called a transverse shock).
