Euclid's second proposition is as follows: from a given point to draw a straight line equal to a given straight line. Since Euclid's time, his treatment of this proposition has received a great deal of criticism. The author of the present paper argues that these criticism are ill-founded, and that Euclid's treatment is beyond reproach.
