A new method for computing minimal-energy splines with prescribed tangents at the endpoints is given that is based on the idea of representing the interpolant as a curve of a piecewise polynomial curvature function. The interpolant is determined by using a cubic-spline interpolation to find an initial approximation and an optimization procedure to minimize curvature discontinuities in the curve.
