The stability of unidirectional periodic flow of a compressible viscous gas, induced by a body force periodic in one coordinate, is investigated analytically. It constitutes an extension of the incompressible Kolmogorov flow problem. Concentrating on long-wave instabilities, the critical Reynolds number is determined and plotted as function of Mach number.
