Linear difference equations of the \(n\)th order with variable coefficients are considered. It is shown that, for each problem, the determinants of submatrices of a single solution matrix produce the solution sequence. Some applications to sequences and series are given. Properties of Toeplitz matrices involving the roots of the associated polynomial equations are investigated.
