A problem in identification of continuous time-varying nonlinear systems is considered, where the nonlinearities are assumed to be known and the time-variant functional parameters to be identified enter linearly into the system equations. The problem is solved by approximating the solution of the corresponding Volterra-Hammerstein integral equations by the Galerkin method using shifted Chebyshev polynomials as the basis. Numerical problems occurring in the least squares solution of the derived system of linear algebraic equations are overcome by formulation of a regularized error functional.
