The Carathéodory coefficient problem and the Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem are discussed and studied with special emphasis on the connection between the second problem and rational functions that are orthogonal on the unit circle \(\mathbb{T}\). This connection generalizes a well known relationship between the Carathéodory coefficient problem and polynomials orthogonal on \(\mathbb{T}\).
