As is well known, Dedekind's correspondence with Cantor was very important for the latter's prosecution of set theory between 1872 and 1884, to \(\dag\) extent that certain key ideas are taken more or less verbatim from certain of Dedekind's letters. The author discusses this correspondence in detail, suggesting that their personal relationships were rather variable in harmony as a consequence.
