The authors point out several shortcomings in the definitions of compositions of fuzzy relations due to Bandler and Kohout [see, e.g., \textit{L. J. Kohout}, \textit{E. Keravnou} and \textit{W. Bandler}, TIMS Stud. Manage. Sci. 20, 383-404 (1984; Zbl 0539.68091)]. They give alternative definitions in which the composition operator is based on the continuous triangular norms. Suitable examples and the most important properties of the operators are given.
