Using the Wiener-Hopf method, we have obtained the exact solution of the problem involving the equilibrium of a piecewise homogeneous layer, weakened by a semi-infinite crack. The effect of the nonuniformity of the material on the stress intensity factor at the crack tip has been investigated.
