The determination of stress in a transparent body from the results of its continuous \(X\)-ray examination is considered in the hypothesis of weak optical anisotropy. The lateral surface of the body is considered load- free. \(X\)-ray examination is carried out in a family of parallel planes. For such a statement, two problems can be posed: 1) the problem of the tomography of tensor stress field and 2) the problem of the theory of elasticity of the restoration of all values of the stress-tensor components on the basis of a given distribution of one of the components. The solution of the second problem for a layer is investigated on an example of a circular cylinder.
