The authors study the transnormality of curves which are obtained as graphs of vector-valued differentiable functions in one variable [see also the second author's paper in Bol. Soc. Portuguesa Mat. 22, 33-36 (1992)]. They show that polynomial functions of even degree cannot have transnormal graphs. In the odd case some conditions are proved to be necessary and sufficient for transnormality. This leads to a characterization of polynomials of degree less than or equal to 5 which have transnormal graphs.
