The scattering problems of an inclusion (scatterer) with compliant interface in a two-dimensional infinite medium due to a plane shear wave are analyzed by boundary integral equation methods, first in the frequency domain and then in the time domain through the use of the fast Fourier transform. The compliant interface conditions between the elastic medium and the scatterer are assumed to be replaced by a linear spring. Limiting cases of zero spring constant and infinite spring constant are reduced to the cavity problem and perfect bonding case, respectively.
