The Wigner function method is used to include the time dependence, self consistency and inelastic scattering in quantum transport modeling. The authors present a numerical method to determine the Wigner function which is derived from an accurate discretization of the Schrödinger equation. The resulting matrix structure and the method for solving the equations are presented. Problems still remain in the implementation of the method, particularly regarding the proper formulation of the scattering rates and the inclusion of sufficient range in the real-space and \(k\)-space discretization.
