Given a (not developable) panel surface \(S\) with some properties (convexity etc.) the authors try to automatizise the covering of the panel by given tapes. They show that the centerline of the tape has to follow a geodesic line on \(S\), if wrinkle and stretching errors of the tape are minimized. It is shown that gap and overlay errors may be estimated by the Gaussian curvature of \(S\) in the point of the centerline of the tape. Then the authors use a Gaussian geodesic parametrization of \(S\) to minimize the above mentioned gap and overlay errors. Finally they give an example of an application of their technique.
