This paper concerns the numerical solution of initial value problems of the form \(y''= f(x,y)\), \(y(x_ 0)= y_ 0\), \(y'(x_ 0)= y_ 0'\) by a large class of methods. Representing the elementary differentials by Nyström trees, simplifying conditions are obtained that serve as a framework for generating and analyzing higher order methods. An advantageous implementation of such methods is discussed.
