We derive a modified variational formulation, in which the subsidiary conditions are introduced into the framework of the variational expression. Therefore, the continuity requirement of displacements on boundary is relaxed in the variational formulation, and the displacement functions on the boundary can be chosen independently without any restriction. It is a more general variational formulation for \(BEM\).
