This paper proves a Paley-Wiener theorem for step two nilpotent Lie groups. In order to prove the theorem the explicit form of the representations on the step two nilpotent Lie group plays an important role. This is analogous to the Paley-Wiener theorem for the Heisenberg group proved by the author [J. Funct. Anal. 115, 24-44 (1993; Zbl 0793.43006)].
