The author studies monotonicity of Gaussian and of Gauss-Lobatto quadrature formulas, considering compound quadrature rules. In two theorems the monotonical behaviour of quadrature errors depending on the number of nodes is given, provided that the \(2m\)-th derivative of the integrand does not change sign, \(m\) and \((m+1)\), respectively, being the number of nodes of the basic quadrature rules.
