Some necessary conditions in order that an \(n\)-dimensional Riemannian manifold \((M,g)\) may be locally isometrically (or conformally) imbedded into \(\mathbb{R}^{n + 2}\) in terms of some new quantity associated with \((M,g)\) are given. The same problem is considered for a Riemannian symmetric space \(M = G/K\).
