The authors study a class of endomorphisms of subfactor index 2, called binary shifts, on the hyperfinite \(\text{II}_ 1\) factor. They identify invariants for cocycle conjugacy and strong cocycle conjugacy classes. In particular, there is a connection between the Bratteli diagram associated with a binary shift and strong cocycle conjugacy.
