The authors study an integral equation of the first kind which arises in magnetocardiography by the use of the Biot-Savart law. The ill-posedness of the problem is quantified by showing the super exponential decay of the singular values of the integral operator. Under simplifying geometrical assumptions, which lead to a one-dimensional convolution problem on the unit circle, a stability result is proved, using an additional bound on the derivative of the solution.
