The author presents a purely algebraic method for the computation of Chern characters of complexes of free modules over Noetherian rings, using Rees rings of determinantal ideals and multiplicities in the algebraic sense. He shows afterwards how his construction is an algebraic version of a special case of the construction of localized Chern characters as presented by \textit{W. Fulton} [``Intersection theory'' (1984; Zbl 0541.14005)].
