The paper reports on experiences regarding the implementation of the iterative solver in a commercial finite element software. The iterative solver uses the conjugate gradient method and involves two types of preconditioning: the traditional Jacobi method, and the incomplete Cholesky decomposition technique. Numerical results are given for very large, well-conditioned matrices, and exhibit possible reduction for both the central processor time and disk storage.
