The objective of this paper is two fold; to state Rayleigh's method of dimensional analysis in the form of a theorem, and to offer its proof based on the theory of vector spaces and utilizing as building block the concept of dimension monomials employed in [\textit{W. D. Curtis}, \textit{J. F. Logan} and \textit{W. A. Walker}, Linear Algebra Appl. 47, 117-126 (1982; Zbl 0491.15008)]. The use of the theory of vector spaces in the context of dimensional analysis was already initiated by \textit{S. Drobot} in Stud. Math. 14, 84-99 (1953; Zbl 0052.40901).
