In the Hermite interpolation problem for vector-valued functions on a partitioned interval \([a,b]\) a functional \(I\) is defined on the space of interpolatory functions. It uses function values and integrals of the functions and their derivatives. The paper characterizes those interpolating functions which have a minimal value of \(I\) as piecewise solutions to certain linear differential equations.
