The author shows that the exterior stress and electric fields generated by the infinitesimal translation of a rigid ellipsoidal inclusion in an infinite piezoelectric medium are the same as those induced by a layer of body force and electric charge applied on the ellipsoidal surface. Numerical results are presented for two materials. The use of Gaussian double quadratures with variable station points permits an efficient evaluation of the translational stiffness of the matrix for arbitrary aspect ratios of the inclusion. Results are shown to fit previous ones based on exact solutions. The given numerical tables, however, show that a large number of integration points are needed in the limit cases of very small (0.01) and very large (100) aspect ratios, as compared to the other cases.
