    In 1956 \textit{G. N. Lance} [Quart. Appl. Math. 14, 312-315 (1956; Zbl 0072.421)] investigated Newtonian flow in circular and two-dimensional tubes due to a constant pressure gradient and subjected to a series of boundary pulses. This study was motivated by a desire to determine conditions for flow stoppage and reversal and was extended by \textit{S. K. Srinivasan} and \textit{R. Vasudevan} [Introduction to random differential equations and their applications (1971; Zbl 0242.60002)] to the case of random pulses. In the present paper, the author goes one step further by extending the work of Srinivasan et al. to the class of non-Newtonian fluids called second order fluids. Assuming that the random pulses and pressure gradient act in opposite directions, conditions are obtained for flow stoppage, and a sufficient condition is derived for the check of flow reversal. This is a noncomplex problem whose results should be of interest to some researchers.
