The authors present very roughly the idea of applying a Galerkin approach to operator equations. With the help of \(C^ k\)-splines and a Sobolev- type inner product they construct the corresponding sparse linear system. For ordinary linear differential operators the entries of the matrix are calculated explicitly. A program written in Reduce concludes the paper.
