This paper contains an analysis of two-level three-point finite difference schemes of order 2 in time and order 4 in space for unsteady one-dimensional diffusion-convection problems. This class of finite difference schemes includes several schemes proposed by different authors. Special attention is paid to the identification of difference schemes yielding satisfactory numerical results for strongly convective problems.
