The homogeneous Dirichlet boundary value problem for the Stokes equation in plane polygonal domains is discretized with usual finite elements and after that regularized by addition of a parameter-depending term. The convergence rate of the method is found depending on the regularization parameter. The technique resembles that of \textit{R. Verfürth} [IMA J. Numer. Anal. 4, 441-455 (1984; Zbl 0563.76028)]. A numerical example confirms the theoretical predictions.
