The author extends previous results of \textit{H. Tai} [in: Differential geometry and topology, Proc. Spec. Year, Tianjin 1986-87, Lect. Notes Math. 1369, 261-274 (1989; Zbl 0704.14042)] and gives bounds for the characteristic classes of smooth complex projective varieties which are complete intersections. He also gives examples which show that the given bounds do not hold for non-complete intersection complex projective varieties.
