In previous models of the renal concentrating mechanism ideal approximations of solution thermodynamics for membrane transport calculations have been employed. The present authors have derived equations that govern membrane transport for non-dilutes and use these equations in a three-dimensional model of the concentrating mechanisms. Since the idealized approximations begin to break down in such models more stable numerical methods have been employed. The results so obtained seem to be more appropriate in comparison to ideal solution models.
