The paper studies the design variable sensitivity with respect to a matrix of the multibody systems and extends the sensitivity analysis of multibody systems to matrix-valued functions using the direct method. The formulae deduced from matrix calculus and Kronecker algebra can be generalized. In addition, when the direct method for the sensitivity analysis of multibody system motion equations is used, there arises a difficulty in separating the matrix product during differentiation. This problem is also solved here.
