The aim is to present an approach to a strength criterion of the continuous thread reinforced soil (CTRS) taking into account the failure modes of the material. From a macroscopic point of view, CTRS can be considered as a homogeneous anisotropic medium. The theoretical procedure is thus based upon a yield design homogenization method. We first present a modelisation of the material, then we introduce our macroscopic strength criterion and its geometrical representation. Next, we interpret the failure modes of CTRS with this representation. Finally, using Mohr's representation of the macroscopic strength criterion, we determine and define anisotropic cohesion and friction angle of the material.
