We present the linearized version of the extended Tiersten's theory [\textit{H. F. Tiersten}, Int. J. Eng. Sci. 9, 587-604 (1971; Zbl 0225.73082)] of thermoelectroelasticity. It is found that the theory developed admits a finite speed for thermal signals and also it reveals the fact that piezoelasticity appears even in isotropic materials. An equation of energy balance and a uniqueness theorem for the initial-boundary value problems of the proposed theory is presented.
