The author considers metric theories of gravitation plus matter fields which, after introducing an appropriately defined new metric, become equivalent to general relativity plus matter fields. Her main goal is to characterize the special situation that the transformation from the old metric to the new metric preserves all non-spacelike geodesics. The idea is to study singularities to the old metric (characterized by non- spacelike geodesic incompleteness) in terms of the new metric.
