This paper identifies a simple principle in nonlinear functional analysis which ensures that, under certain hypotheses, all the solutions \(x\) of a nonlinear equation \(F(x) = 0\), \(x \in X\), lie in a linear subspace \(X_ 1\). A wide variety of applications are given, in many branches of analysis.
