The paper under review is the third of the authors' series on the theme of integral closure and ramification of prime ideals in infinite algebraic extensions. [For the two preceding papers see J. Algebra 136, No. 1, 197-247 (1991; Zbl 0815.13004) and ibid. 143, No. 2, 436-469 (1991; Zbl 0755.14015).] While in the first part the authors discussed the integral extensions of a quasilocal domain \(R\) which is compositumwise unramified over \(R\), here they relax the condition of compositumwise unramifiedness of essentially integral extensions by developing a systematic study of the behaviour of these properties by passing to integral extensions. The paper ends up by proposing a number of questions.
