Asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalues, eigenfunctions, and the reciprocals of the eigenfunction norms for Sturm-Liouville problems with regular end points are developed. The method is based on a transformation to Liouville normal form and an iterative procedure using an associated Volterra integral equation. The paper includes a comprehensive introductory account of the topic with many useful remarks and references.
