It is classical that a section in a fiber bundle with Lagrangian is critical for the associated action if and only if it satisfies the Euler- Lagrange equation. This fact is reproved in the language of jet-spaces without explicit reference to a variational problem. The Poincaré- Cartan form is also discussed in this framework.
