The article is concerned with semi-automatic grid generation for approximating surfaces in \(\mathbb{R}^ 3\) by \(B\)-splines. First, the approximation takes place locally; here, the user has to provide four points in the surface-part to be approximated. The overall topology is captured by regarding all neighborhood relationships and adjusting the spline-parameters to obtain a required smoothness. Some results are shown in practical examples.
