\textit{Giovanni Rizzetti} (1675--1751) was member of a group of Venetian scholars around \textit{Count Jacopo Riccati} (1676--1754). His main works were in optics. In this paper his contributions to probability especially to Bernoulli's theorem (1713) and his different position to it are being discussed. They are to be found in his printed works of 1724--1729 and in two unpublished manuscripts (in Italian) which are reproduced in the Appendices. In 1724 there was a dispute with the young \textit{Daniel Bernoulli} (1700--1782) on these topics in Venice. The statement of Rizzetti are situated between the empirical law of chance and the law of large numbers. It is remarkable that \textit{Isaac Todhunter} (1820--1884) in his `History of mathematical theory of probability' (1865) gave a critical notice to Rizzetti's contribution on pp. 614--615.
