In [\textit{D. Barbour} and the first author, ibid. 43, No. 1, 9-31 (1992; Zbl 0765.60043)], Stein's method is used to give bounds on the total variation distance between the distributions of a finite point process and a Poisson process. This paper corrects an error in the computation of the bounds in the case of the hard core point process, which they used as an illustration.
