In the mid-forties the author of the article was requested by Hardy to edit a manuscript of an unnamed mathematician as a Cambridge Tract. On this occasion he became acquainted with Hardy's principles of editing a text as a Cambridge Tract. He gives a short description of these principles demonstrated by copies of some of Hardy's letters and supplements his story with interesting facts about the history of the Cambridge Tracts. Hardy was an editor of the Tracts from 1914 to 1946. There is a nice point of the story: the manuscript was never published as a Cambridge Tract.
