A short report is given on the geometry of hyperbolic 3-manifolds of finite volume having non-empty totally geodesic boundary. The following topics are discussed: induced circle packings on the sphere at infinity of hyperbolic 3-space; polyhedral decompositions; the effect that Dehn surgery on a torus cusp has on the hyperbolic structure of the totally geodesic boundary; lower bounds for the volume of such a manifold in terms of the area of its boundary, in particular manifolds of minimal volume (reporting on work of the author and Miyamoto).
