The authors consider a Lagrangian mechanical system with a nonhomogeneous kinetic function being the sum of a quadratic and a linear function of the velocities. The potential function is supposed to have no proper maximum at the equilibrium. Sufficient conditions are given for the existence of a motion asymptotically tending to the equilibrium, which is connected with the instability of the equilibrium.
