Lacunary sums \(\sum a_ k p_{n_ k}\) of polynomials \(p_ n\) orthogonal with respect to a general weight function are investigated in the paper. Wiener-type inequalities are obtained and discussed and they are applied in the proof of a Müntz-type theorem about the denseness of the lacunary sums in \(L^ 2\) on subintervals of the interval of orthogonality.
