The author considers the problem of calculating the field of a magnet with midplane symmetry, when the midplane field is known. He provides new finite difference methods, and discusses the problem of suppressing the errors caused by high frequency noise. The methods are tested by the introduction of noise to a problem with known solution and the results are stated to be satisfactory. The results are applied to the calculation of magnet fields in the K1200 superconducting cyclotron.
